According to SP 7.13130, smoke removal from an office, as per paragraph 7.2 i), is required from each room without natural light or with natural light through windows or skylights that do not have mechanized (automatic or remotely controlled) drives for opening window transoms and skylight openings, in both cases with an area sufficient to remove smoke in the event of a fire:
- public, intended for large numbers of people;
According to the 2013 edition, smoke removal is required even from a small office. This refers to offices without natural ventilation or without sprinkler fire suppression (see SP 7.13130). Sprinkler fire suppression (AFPS) is a measure to compensate for and eliminate smoke removal.
It is also possible to conduct a fire risk assessment, calculate fire safety scenarios, and eliminate the need for office smoke ventilation design and calculations.
